Share links and Allow downloads

Your rides and routes are yours. You share the ones you choose, because the level is set route by route rather than once for your whole account. Making one item public leaves every other item exactly as it was.

Three levels#

Every route and ride carries one of three levels, and the level decides who can open it.

Change the level in one of two ways.

1. Tap the pill on the card. Each tap cycles to the next level, so three taps bring you back to where you started.
2. Or open the item page and choose Make Public or Make Private.

A public item is on Explore. A private item is not, so nothing you keep private turns up in another rider's search. Tap the pill again to set the item back to Private.

Collections have two levels rather than three, so a collection is private or public with no friends-only setting in between.

Sharing a link#

Press Share on the item. A link is useful only if the person you send it to can open it, so INVIA makes the item public first when it was not public already.

1. INVIA makes the item public first, if it was not public already.
2. The share sheet opens.
3. Copy the link, email it, or hand it to another app.

What changes when you press Share on a private item:

• The item is now public. The pill reads Public.
• The item appears on Explore immediately.
• The route or ride is unchanged, because sharing changes who can open the item rather than the item itself. No point is moved and no file is deleted.
• To undo the change, set the item back to Private.

A Friends item goes the same way, because Share publishes anything that is not already public and a friends-level route counts as not yet public. Pressing Share on a friends-level route or ride moves it straight to Public and shows the same notice you get on a private one.

Sharing only ever widens who can see an item. Every Share button in the app publishes an item that is not already public, and none of them moves an item back down a level. Set the level back yourself with the pill when you want it narrower.

Links look like inviagps.com/route/…, /ride/…, /collection/…, so the address itself says which kind of item you are handing over.

Anyone with the link sees the map, the line, the stats and the waypoints. Public pages.

Allow downloads#

The share sheet has one switch, called Allow downloads, and it decides whether a visitor can take the file away or only look at the item.

Three rules apply to the switch.

• It is off by default, so sharing a link never hands out a file until you decide it should.
• It is set per item rather than per account, which means allowing downloads on one route leaves every other item as it was.
• It appears only on content you own.

A route you saved from another rider shows no switch, because the file belongs to the rider who made it.

• The share sheet for that route has no Allow downloads row.
• The link still works. Visitors can view the route and send it to a device.
• Nothing is required of you. Share the link as it is.

Saving someone else's route#

Inside the app, another rider's public route shows Import to Library. Press it to save a copy, so the route is in your own library next time instead of somewhere you have to go looking for it.

What you get:

• The copy is in your library.
• The copy is private, and it stays private until you change the level yourself.
• The copy is tagged Imported.
• The copy records the rider who made the route, so the credit stays with them.

The credit sits on the copy's own page in your library, under the title and below the owner line, as a small grey line reading Imported from {rider}. It shows only when the route really did start with another rider, so a route you drew yourself never carries it. The name on that line is the rider's display name, or their username when they have not set a display name.

What the copy does not offer:

• Export is never offered on an imported copy. The file belongs to the rider who made it.
• Sending the copy to your device still works. Use that instead, because it puts the route on your Garmin without handing you the file.
• The copy stays in your library either way. It is not deleted and it is not hidden.

Collections#

A public collection can be viewed, imported and sent to a device by anyone with the link.

Downloading a whole collection as one file follows two rules.

• Only the owner can download the collection as one file.
• Every route in the collection must be the owner's own.

A collection that holds a route saved from another rider fails the second rule, because one bundle would carry that rider's route out with it.

• The collection page still opens. Every route in it is still listed.
• Visitors can still view the collection, import it and send it to a device.
• Each route you own can still be shared on its own with Allow downloads on.
• To get a one file download, build the collection from your own routes only.

The download link#

1. Open the share sheet for the collection.
2. Switch on Allow downloads.
3. INVIA mints a special link. Hand out that link.

The permission lives in the link rather than in the collection, which means only the people you send that link to can take the files.

The owner can revoke the download links at any time, and INVIA confirms with N download links revoked.

N is the number of download links for that collection that were still live when you switched Allow downloads off, and all of them are cancelled together. Every link you had handed out stops working, so a rider holding an old one can no longer take the files. If no link was live, the message reads No active download links. instead.

That count belongs to collections only, because a collection mints a new link each time you switch the toggle on. A single route's Allow downloads switch is a plain on or off with nothing to count.

• Downloading the collection as one file is no longer offered through the old links.
• The collection is still public. Visitors can still view it, import it and send it to a device.
• Every route in the collection is still in your library.
• Switch Allow downloads back on to mint a new link.

Your profile#

Your public profile lists everything you have chosen to share, so a rider you meet can see your riding in one place rather than asking you for links.

• Read it as a map of lines, or as cards.
• It shows stats, epics, rides, routes and collections.
• Friends see your friends-level items too, because the profile follows the level you set on each item.

On a public profile, a visitor who is not your friend sees the same profile a friend sees: your photo, cover, name, home town, write-up, links, stats and map. What differs is the content listed, because only the rides and routes you marked Public appear and anything set to Friends stays hidden until you accept a friend request.

A private profile shows two things only.

• Your name.
• An invitation to connect.

A friend still sees your full profile, because the cut-down card is for visitors you have not accepted.

A private profile hides your items from visitors. The items are still in your library, and each one keeps the level you set, so making the profile private costs you nothing you can see.
