Glossary

The per-item switch that decides whether someone with your share link can download the file as well as look at it. It is off by default and only appears for content you own.

The Pro tools that find duplicate routes by shape, merge duplicate waypoints in two distance tiers, rescue or delete orphaned pins, and remove duplicate collections. They work only on your own data and show what they will keep and remove before you confirm.

A set of routes and rides handled as one thing, with a name, a description, an automatic cover map and waypoints of its own. A multi-day trip, a route pack, an event weekend. One route can belong to several collections.

A route or ride you saved from another rider. It is yours to view, rate, file and send to your device, but the file stays theirs, so it is never exportable and is kept in its own section of the library.

The three-click tool that reroutes a section of a saved line: click where the section starts, click where it ends, then click anywhere to route it through that point. The route line itself is not draggable, so this is how a section is moved.

Small chevrons drawn into the track line itself when a route is sent to a device, so a complicated junction reads correctly on a small screen and the direction of a loop is unambiguous.

The GPX extension a Garmin actually reads for line colour. Devices ignore a hex value, so INVIA writes the extension and matches your route colour by hue to the nearest Garmin name.

The organizer's choice of who may take a permanent copy of the event's route files: nobody, riders who joined, or anyone with the link. Riders can always view the routes and send them to a GPS.

The plain-text file format every GPS speaks. It can hold tracks, routes and waypoints. INVIA reads and writes standard GPX with nothing proprietary in the way.

The glow of every public line in view, thickening where routes overlap and sharpening into individual lines as you zoom in. Planned routes are blue, recorded rides orange. It is overlapping lines, not a density estimate.

Garmin's native map format. A custom IMG file loads onto the device and draws alongside its own maps. Each layer in the INVIA map builder becomes exactly one IMG on the device.

A small free background application for Windows 10 and 11. Windows claims MTP devices with its own driver before a browser can reach them, and Bridge is what lets Chrome talk to the Garmin. Macs do not need it.

The Forest Service document that designates which motor vehicles may use which roads and trails in a National Forest, and when. INVIA draws the designated routes, and the printed map remains the legally binding document.

The protocol newer Garmins use over USB. The device connects like a phone, keeps running normally, and never appears as a drive. INVIA is the only web application outside Garmin that sends files to a Garmin this way.

A route point that is not on any mapped road, drawn in orange with a straight line through it. Anchors are the one part of the line you can drag, and moving one redraws its two segments instantly.

Off-highway vehicle. Used by land agencies to describe vehicles not registered for highway use, and by INVIA in the ATV and narrow OHV class, which covers machines 50 inches wide or less.

The single de-duplicated set of waypoints INVIA builds when a collection travels: every member's waypoints plus the collection's own pins, with the same place folded together when it appears in more than one member.

A named place beside the route that the route does not detour to. Dropping a point of interest creates a pin by default; clearing the off-route option turns it into a stop instead.

A record: the track your GPS wrote while you rode, with a timestamp on every point. Rides carry moving time, maximum and average speed. INVIA decides whether an imported file is a route or a ride from the file itself.

How INVIA sorts every road: single track, ATV and narrow OHV at 50 inches or less, open to all vehicles, street-legal only, four-wheel-drive high-clearance, and four-wheel-drive where plates are required or the designation needs local checking. Each class is a switch on the map.

The list of riders in an event, with their status and role. For an email-list event it is also the list of addresses allowed to join, imported by paste or spreadsheet.

A plan: an editable line you built or imported to ride. A route can be opened in the route builder, rated, filed into a collection and sent to a GPS. It is not a record of a ride you took.

One of the plain clicks that shape a route line. Route points have no name, show only as a count, and never leave the route builder.

What the builder does with your next click. Auto tries the road network, then the trail network, then a straight line. Road and Trail force one network. OFF-Track draws straight lines only. Changing the mode never moves what is already drawn.

Cuts one route into separately named and coloured parts that can be saved on their own or together. Join puts them back into one route in order.

A collection setting. Stowed keeps the collection's routes inside it and off the Home lists, so a twelve-stage pack does not flood the grid. Listed shows them everywhere. New collections are stowed.

The ordered trail of points inside a GPX file. INVIA delivers planned routes to a Garmin as tracks so the device draws the exact line you built instead of recalculating it on its own map.

Who can see one route or ride: private, friends, or public. The choice is made item by item, never once for a whole account. Collections are simply private or public.
