Tags and Smart Files

Tags#

A tag is a label you put on a route or a ride so that one click in the sidebar narrows the library to everything carrying it. Collections cannot be tagged, so a tag always sits on a single route or ride.

Create a tag#

Three places make a new tag, so you can name one while you are looking at the item you want to file rather than going back to the sidebar first.

A new tag has no items on it until you apply it, which means making the tag and putting it on something are two separate steps.

Apply a tag#

Applying a tag is the second step, and it works from three places so that you can label one item on its own or every item you have selected at once.

Where a tag shows#

An applied tag shows in three places, so the same label is in front of you whether you are scanning cards, reading an item page or working in the sidebar.

• On the card, as a badge.
• On the item page, in the Tags section, with an X to remove each.
• In the sidebar, colored from a palette of eight.

More tags than that is fine and none of them goes uncolored, because the eight colors repeat rather than run out. A ninth tag takes the first color again, a tenth takes the second, and nothing stops you making more. The sidebar lists tags alphabetically and hands out the colors by position in that list, which means adding or renaming a tag can change the color shown against the tags near it.

The Imported tag#

Routes saved from another rider get an Imported tag automatically, which means they arrive already carrying it and you do not apply it yourself.

Imported is an ordinary tag in your own list, so you can take it off. The X beside it on an item page removes it from that one item, and deleting it in the sidebar removes it from every item at once. Nothing puts it back, because the tag goes on at the moment you save something from another rider and is never added to older items afterwards.

Taking Imported off changes nothing else about the item, so it stays in your library and its item page still shows the rider it came from. It also stays under Community Imports and still has no GPX button, because both of those follow where the item came from rather than the tags on it.

Filter by tag#

1. Click a tag in the sidebar. The library shows only items with that tag.
2. Click the same tag again. The library shows every item again.

The count next to each tag matches what clicking it shows, so the number tells you how many items the filter will leave on screen.

Rename a tag#

1. Hover the tag in the sidebar to show the pencil and the trash.
2. Click the pencil and type the new name.
3. The toast reads Tag renamed.

The new name shows on the cards, on the item pages and in the sidebar, because a rename changes the one label everywhere rather than creating a second tag. Renaming does not remove the tag from any item, so the tag filter still works under the new name.

Renaming a tag while its filter is open leaves the list on screen alone, because the tag's row in the sidebar turns into a text box and the grid beside it is untouched. The heading above the grid keeps showing the old name with the same items under it until you press Enter. Pressing Enter switches the heading to the new name, keeps the same items on screen and re-sorts the tag into its new alphabetical place in the sidebar. Pressing Esc leaves everything as it was, so a rename you start and then drop costs you nothing.

Delete a tag#

1. Hover the tag in the sidebar to show the pencil and the trash.
2. Click the trash. The prompt reads Delete "#{name}"? and This will remove it from all items.
3. Confirm. The toast reads Tag deleted.

The tag is gone from the sidebar and from every card and item page that carried it. Your routes and rides are not deleted, so they stay in the library and open as before. To bring the tag back, create it again and apply it to each item, because deleting the tag took it off every item at once.

Remove a tag from one item#

1. Open the item page.
2. Click the X on the tag in the Tags section.

The tag comes off that item only, so other items keep it and the tag stays in the sidebar list ready to use again. This is the narrow version of the delete step above, which takes the tag off everything.

Smart Files (Pro)#

Smart Files gives you five filters that narrow the library by what an item is rather than by a label you applied yourself.

• Region
• Year
• Ride type
• Surface: Paved, Mixed, Dirt
• Difficulty: Easy, Moderate, Hard

They combine with AND, so an item has to match every filter you set before it stays on screen. They index the whole library rather than only what is loaded on screen, which means a filter reaches items you have not scrolled to yet. Clear resets them.

Region comes from where each item starts, and Organize Library fills it in for anything that lacks one so that the Region filter has something to match.

Locked accounts see Smart Files filters are a Pro feature. Tags still work on a locked account, so you can click a tag in the sidebar to narrow the library instead.
