INVIA

Explore overview

Explore is everyone else's riding: every public route and ride on one map, heat glow zoomed out, individual routes zoomed in, three tabs, duplicate grouping, and tap any road for its details.

Last checked against the live app on 7 September 2026.

Explore is a full-screen map of every public route and ride on INVIA, drawn over the INVIA Base Map so other riders' lines sit on the same roads you plan your rides on. Zoomed out the map shows heat glow instead of lines, so you can read where the riding is concentrated before you know which region to zoom into. Zoom into a region and the glow resolves into individual route lines, which you can open, save and pin. The hint at the top of the map reads Zoom in to a region to explore its routes & riders, or stay zoomed out for the activity heatmap.

Zoom decides what you see#

Zoom The map draws The sidebar shows
Below about zoom 7 Heat glow. No individual route lines. That the heat glow is activity, and a request to zoom in.
Above about zoom 7 Individual route lines fade in. The routes in view.

Below about zoom 7 there is no individual route line to hover or click, because the map is drawing the heat glow instead of the lines. The routes are all still there. Zoom in past zoom 7 and the lines draw.

The sidebar orders the routes in view by distance from the center of the map, so what you are looking at comes first. Your favourites are pulled to the top of that list.

Heat glow#

  • Routes and Rides sit under the Heatmap label.
  • Routes draws planned routes in blue.
  • Rides draws recorded rides in orange.

The switch shows one kind of glow at a time, so you are reading either planned routes or recorded rides and never the two mixed together. Switch to Rides and the blue route glow is not drawn. The routes are still on Explore, so switch back to Routes to draw the blue glow again.

Search and chips#

  • Search a place… flies the map anywhere.
  • The type chips are All, Routes and Rides.
  • When the view has enough variety, two more rows of chips appear: activity, and difficulty (Easy, Mod, Hard, Extreme).

A chip filters the sidebar and the map together, so the list and the lines always agree. Items that do not match the chip are not listed, but they are not deleted and they are not removed from Explore. Press All to list every type again.

Tabs, search and chips.

Three tabs#

The tabs list what is in view three ways, so you can start from a route, from the rider who built it or from the collection it sits in.

Tab What it lists
Routes What is in view.
Riders Everyone with public content in view, with their route and ride counts and a link to their profile.
Collections The public collections that contain anything in view, with cover, route count, owner and difficulty.

Switching tabs changes the list and not the map, because the lines are drawn from the type and difficulty chips rather than from the tab you are on. The one visible change is that the Heatmap switch and the chip rows are shown only while Routes is open. The settings they hold stay in force on the other two tabs, so pressing Riders does not turn the heat glow off or drop a difficulty filter.

One trail, many riders#

Five riders upload the same trail and Explore draws one line, not five, because near-identical routes collapse into one line and one row. That keeps the map readable instead of stacking five copies of the same trail.

What you see:

  • One line on the map.
  • One row in the sidebar reading N riders · M collections.

The riders half counts how many different riders uploaded a version of that trail, and the collections half counts the public collections that hold any of those versions. That row is drawn only when a trail really has more than one version, so a trail one rider posted carries no count. The collections half is dropped when no public collection holds a version, which is why some rows read just N riders.

For how popular a trail is, read the heart beside the row, because the heart is the favourite count while the riders number only says how many people uploaded a version.

What still works:

  • Every rider's version is still stored on INVIA. Collapsing is a drawing decision, not a deletion.
  • The row counts the riders and the collections, so you can see who else has this trail before you open it.

What to do:

  • Expand the row to list the individual versions.

Hover, select, open#

  1. Hover a route line. The other lines dim.
  2. Read the card: name, distance, difficulty by consensus, who built it, favourites, collections, versions.
  3. Click the line to select it. The line glows and the card stays put with an Open button.
  4. Press Open to go to the item page.

The other lines dim so the one under your pointer is the one you are reading, and they are still on the map. Move the pointer off the route line and they return to full brightness.

Esc clears everything: the hover dim, the selected line and the road card. Every route stays on the map.

Roads under the routes#

Tap anywhere that is not a route line and Explore opens the card for the road underneath, with its number, class, season and agency. That lets you check the road itself, rather than only the routes other riders have drawn on it.

Selecting a route line and tapping a road are exclusive, so tapping a road clears the selected route line and selecting a route line closes the road card. You read one card at a time, and neither action removes anything from the map.

Hover, select and open.

Pin what you find#

Pin any route, ride or collection to your profile from Explore. The toast reads Pinned to your profile.

A pin does not copy the item into your library. To save it to your library, open the item page and save it there, because pinning and saving are separate actions.

Layers#

The Layers button opens the basemap picker and the full layer control:

  • The six road classes.
  • Ride-area and trail pins.
  • Land boundaries.
  • Road labels.

Explore itself is free on every account. The Pro road classes stay locked on Explore the way they are locked everywhere else in INVIA, so the legend reads the same wherever you open the map.

What you see on a free account:

  • A locked class stays in the legend, dimmed, with a lock.
  • Lines of that class are not drawn on the map.
  • Tapping the locked class on the legend says {class} is a Pro feature.

What still works:

  • Explore, on every account.
  • The four unlocked road classes, the basemaps and the pins.

What to do:

  • Read the map with the four unlocked classes, or upgrade to Pro to draw the locked ones on Explore and everywhere else in INVIA.

Tapping a locked class in the layer control opens the plan picker, which offers a monthly or annual plan and lists Single Track and ATV trail classes as the first thing Pro adds. Once Pro is on, those classes draw in the route builder too, so the map you set up for reading a region is the map you then build the route on.

Pins, tap a road and layers.
