Export rules

Your own routes and rides always export. A route or ride you saved from another rider never exports, because the file belongs to the rider who shared it. A collection exports only when you own every route in it, so a download never carries another rider's route away inside a bundle.

Your own routes and rides#

Export is offered on every plan, which means a route you drew or a ride you recorded is yours to take out of INVIA whenever you want it somewhere else.

1. Open the card in your library, or open the item page.
2. Press GPX on the card, or press Export GPX on the item page.
3. Confirm the download.

INVIA downloads a standard GPX file, so other mapping apps and other devices read it without you converting anything first.

What the file holds:

• The track, which is the line itself.
• Your named waypoints, as waypoint entries, so the places you marked travel with the line.
• The route color, so the line keeps the color you chose when a Garmin draws it.

Direction arrows are not a download option. Direction arrows are an option in the send dialog instead, so you choose them when a route goes to your device rather than when a file lands on your computer. GPX files.

Routes and rides saved from another rider#

Export is never offered on a route or ride you saved from another rider. The file belongs to the rider who shared it, so it is theirs to give away.

What you see:

• GPX is hidden on the card.
• Export GPX is absent on the item page.

What still works:

• The saved copy stays in your library, so the rule takes nothing away from you.
• You can open it and view it.
• You can send it to your device.

What to do:

1. Send the copy to your device instead of downloading it, which puts the route on your Garmin without a file leaving INVIA.

A route you loaded from another rider into the builder and saved as new keeps its provenance, because the credit belongs to the route rather than to one version of it. The new route does not export either, so GPX and Export GPX are absent on it as well. Send the new route to your device. Community imports.

Collections#

GPX on a collection downloads one file, so a whole trip reaches you as a single download rather than one download per route. That file holds every route in the collection, in order, plus the package's waypoints.

GPX is offered on a collection only when both of these are true:

• You own the collection.
• You own every route in it.

A collection that holds a route saved from another rider does not download as one file, because that file would carry the other rider's route away inside it.

What you see:

• GPX is not offered on the collection.

What still works:

• The collection opens as normal, and every route in it still opens.
• Every route in it still sends to your device.
• Your own routes in it still export one at a time.

What to do:

1. Take the saved route out of the collection.
2. File that route in a collection of its own.
3. GPX is offered on the first collection again, because it now holds only routes of yours.

Ticking routes inside the open collection and pressing GPX refuses in the same way, so a selection there downloads nothing at all when one ticked route was saved from another rider.

Select mode#

GPX in select mode downloads the items you selected, which is how you take a batch of your own routes out of INVIA without opening each one in turn. What a mixed selection does depends on where you ticked the items, because a selection in your library and a selection inside an open collection follow opposite rules.

In your library and on the Rides page#

Items that cannot be exported are skipped. A selection that mixes your own routes with routes saved from another rider downloads your own routes only, rather than refusing the whole selection and leaving you with nothing. In your library a message counts what was left out, so you know the download is short before you go hunting for a missing file.

What you see:

• The download contains your own items only.

What still works:

• The skipped items stay in your library, so being skipped removes nothing.
• The skipped items still open.
• The skipped items still send to your device.

What to do:

1. Send the skipped items to your device.

Inside an open collection#

Ticking routes inside an open collection is all or nothing. One ticked route saved from another rider stops the whole download, so no file reaches you at all. A message tells you to send the routes to your device instead, and nothing is skipped here, which is the opposite of what a selection in your library does. Check your ticks before you press GPX inside a collection.

What you see:

• No file downloads.
• A message names the reason and points you at your device.

What still works:

• Every ticked route stays in the collection, so a refused download changes nothing.
• Every ticked route still opens.
• Every ticked route still sends to your device.
• Your own routes in the collection still export one at a time from their own cards.

What to do:

1. Send the ticked routes to your device.
2. Untick the routes saved from another rider, then press GPX again, which downloads the routes you own as one file.

Formats#

INVIA exports GPX and nothing else, because GPX is the format Garmin devices and other mapping apps read.

INVIA does not produce any other export format. Download the GPX and convert it with a tool of your own if something you use needs KML, TCX or FIT. GPX files.
